I dunno. Considering Maya's vision and the whole 'controlled by an uncertain future' part of the 4400, I think it might be one of those things thats out of her control.

On the other hand, the whole storyline with Isabelle (and with Shawn's cigar visions) makes me think that one of the things the show is trying to say is that you can make a choice and disrupt whatever 'fate' has in store for you. So, it will probably end up biting her in the ass.
