1) very excited about my yuletide assignment. I actually could do two of the options, even though I only signed up to write one of them, but the other could be a fun challenge. Also, need to write my cliche fic for undermistletoe. And [community profile] fandom_stocking just opened up. I always love doing that!

2) Okay, because I feel I must discuss tonight's Glee before my head explodes. Major spoilers for tonight's episode! )

3) Let's talk happy place of Raising Hope. This show is so perfect and inappropriate and hysterical. I got my best friend hooked on it and a co-worker as well. It's the best crack in the world, pretty much tied with Modern Family for best show on television right now. Everyone should watch it.

4) The "big" finale for The Event was hardly big, they've had bigger cliffhangers on a weekly basis. But that is fitting for this show. I'm stupider for watching, I'm pretty sure my cat judges me for watching it, and yet, I keep tuning in. And my love of Jason Ritter is not a good enough reason - so I'm just a big loser. The show makes no sense! It's ridiculous! And yet, I watch!

In other television news, there is only one more episode of Walking Dead this season and that makes me very sad. I love this show. It's awesome. Of course, it could be renamed, "how big of an ass can Shane become?" But really good stuff has been set into motion and there is Norman Reedus!

5) No work tomorrow! I have off! Viva la day off! Now, do I go see Burlesque or instead see Harry Potter again?

6) Why do ION and A&E show the same episodes of Criminal Minds over and over again? How many times do I have to watch the comic book artist episode?

7) This one is just for [personal profile] zeplum - I started a girl!Niko/Berg fic. Only four paragraphs right now, but I think it's one of those that only you and I will like (that happens so often, doesn't it?)

am dead tired because of social obligations out the wazoo this weekend (and next), but really, LOVED Goblet of Fire, and I have to admit that I was a bit leery. Because I do love the book, but because of its length in comparison to what can make the movie? I was a tad bit worried. But overall very good...

I don't think this is really spoilers, but to be on the safe side - what I want to read now... )

Now I'm gonna read and sleep up for a huge day tomorrow that begins with film class, then going to a friends, and then a hockey game. Oh, long day.

And guess what? It's almost rent time! Finally got my soundtrack for the movie, and while Rosario is not...good?...I don't hate it, so yay! Just bring me Ant and Wilson and Adam (though I'd prefer him with Roger hair and Roger pants) and Jesse and...

Yeah, I'll stop now.

Have a great night!

Alas, I was unable to get tickets to the Philly screening of Serenity, which my sister blames me for. Grr...I tried to point out that if it weren't for me, she wouldn't have even known such a thing was occurring. Dammit.

Oh well, I guess I will simply have to amuse myself by rewatching my dvds once again.

**

Also finally saw the trailer for Goblet of Fire and am very excited. I know I don't really talk much about my love for Harry Potter, but it's sort of innate. I'm not so much a shipper (though good Harry/Draco always warms my heart and Harry/Oliver = yummy), but just madly in love with practically every character...you know, even when they're annoying me or not asking enough questions (Oh Harry, dear, I'm looking at you and your penchant for waiting until Dumbledore feels like sharing stuff).

I just love the stories and the characters. I love the idea of just wanting to do your best to fight for the side of good and hoping it's enough, of coming into your own and realizing that one does have some say in how his/her destiny goes, and yet, the smallest of things (distrust of a friend, worry, etc) can set in motion horrible situations.

So yay! Can't wait for the movie or the next book - though I am still trying to convince myself that I was wrong the three times I read the book and the character I love did *not* die. Oh no.

Is there a ficathon/writing challenge anonymous program out there? I think I need one. Over the next few months, I will be writing quite a few ficathon pieces. Oh Lordy. I really need to stop signing up for these things. I mean, I always enjoy them a great deal and sometimes it leads to a wonderful creation that makes me happy (aka A New Future A/U)...of course, sometimes it makes me want to pull my hair out.

And I won't even discuss the lack of attention I pay to my WIPs because of it - though in fairness...that would probably happen anyway.

That said, things have been a bit busy the past few weekends with helping friends get ready to move, mother's day, the boy being back from California, and trying to get the apartment in order. (After several months, my sister and I finally finished constructing our monster-size bookcase and finding a place for it.)

Oh woe betide!

Not much else to report. I'm up to my neck in access database stuff and it's driving me bloody bonkers - hence the reason I'm here.

Have a good day everyone!

And remember: it's Veronica Mars tonight! Woo-hoo! I am both excited and saddened.

FANNISH FIVE

Drawn 5...

1. Are you more drawn to characters with specific careers (law enforcement, scientist, etc.)?

I tend to be drawn to nerds like Sam Seaborne and Josh Lyman...also drawn to the misunderstood bad boys (ala Draco Malfoy and Sark!)

2. Are you more drawn to shows/movies with a specific setting (space, hospital, etc.)?

Not really. My thing is the writing.

3. Are you more drawn to a specific show/writing style (noir, humorous, etc.)?

It has to have wit and banter--my favorites being anything by Aaron Sorkin and Joss Whedon.

4. Are you more drawn to a specific type of merchandise (t-shirts, models, etc.)?

Not really. Don't really buy a lot of stuff within fandoms aside from dvds of shows & movies.

5. Are you more drawn to a specific type of fan-produced work (fic, vids, etc.)?

Fanfiction is an evil thing that has sucked me into its depths like quicksand.

Bonus question: If you are drawn, what style are you (anime, Disney, etc.)?

I'd be Pixar!

I've seen Harry Potter! Weeeeeee! )

Have finished the first draft of my X-men fic for the fic-a-thon, but I don't know what I think of it. It's missing something, but I can't pinpoint what that elusive "it' Is. I really loathe that part of writing--when you look back over the first draft and realize that there is a crutial element missing.

So I guess I should write for a bit before going to the library booksale, dinner with the mother, and HARRY POTTER AGAIN!

Thanks to the wonders of TIVO and the fact that Alias was not on, I was able to see the part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone where they gave us the sneak-peek stuff without sitting through commercials and such for four hours of my life.

POA looks so good. So dark. It seems that Alfonso has really got a hold on the general theme of the book--and while I can't help but hold out for some interesting scenes between the male characters ala Y Tu Mama Tambien, I think he was a great choice to direct it. The Dementors appear to be just as I imagined them, terrifying to the core, and the boys are growing up.

I hold out hope that this movie will hold up to not only the appearance the previews have given it, but to my utter adoration of the book. This is my favorite book of the series thus far and I think it serves as a real turning point for the main characters...it'll be nice to see it come to fruition on the big screen.

In honor of the upcoming event, I have taken to rereading the series of books to prepare myself fully. I'm such a nerd. As if I don't have enough books to read without my constant need to reread the Harry Potter books.

In other news, Steph [livejournal.com profile] iamtheenemy has asked me to write her Sarkney fic. Considering how far behind on my other writing projects (fanfiction and regular), I don't know when this fiction piece will spring out...but it is such an interesting pairing to me. Not to mention, so hot and full of possibilities in a twisted way.

Maybe one day...

It seems a lot of people within the Harry Potter fandom are up in arms about the fact that Ron's line from the book has been given to Hermoine. I understand that Ron fans are perturbed, especially since it's such a slight change that it might not make much sense to everyone--like why even bother to change it?

But there are changes to the movies. It's a commonality of movies based on books. We saw it with the first two books and I'm sure we'll see it with the remaining ones as well. And while I understand that people feel for Ron and feel that he is often underplayed/underestimated in both the novels and the movies, I don't see it as a big deal. I think it would go without saying that Hermoine would feel the same way about Harry. She loves him and he's her best friend too...so for her to say the words that both she and Ron are thinking doesn't upset me too much. Maybe it's because I love Hermoine's character and know that she has put her life on the line more than once for Harry the same way Ron has. Maybe it's because I truly believe that the sentiment is mutual on both Ron and Hermoine's behalf...and I believe if the roles were reversed it would be true of Harry as well.

From the movie side it also adds that element of "might they end up together someday--look how much she loves Harry" that just doesn't work with Ron on the romance side for the movies (I know this devastates certain slashers out there, but I think it's safe to assume that Ron/Harry will not end up together in the movies). To producers/movie executives it's always necessary to have some sort of romantic potential to a script, whether it be required, whether it fit, or what have you. It's the way it is.

I think if that is the big difference, the big omission from the book to the movie, then the script for the movie was a huge success.

In other news, as predicted, I did zero writing this past weekend. Between the wedding, lunch with friends, and film class, I wasn't in my apartment let alone at my computer much this weekend. This means I have that much more writing to complete this week and upcoming weekend. In good news, most of my social obligations are done with for the time being and film class is over for the semester.

But, summer blockbuster season is upon us (though I use that term loosely after I reminisce about last year's choices like Tomb Raider 2 or The Hulk) and I can't wait to see Van Helsing (vampire loving!) and Troy (ORLI! ORLI! ORLI!) and, of course, Harry Potter on June 4th.

Take care everyone!
