grrr...argh...

So many people have already written on the whole wank regarding a certain fanfiction writer looking for hand-outs to continue her writing. I'm just...floored. Like wow. Can I be a kept fanperson? Will someone out there pay me lots of money because work is just so workish? And while we're at it, are there a few of you on my fanlist that I can hire (at no charge to me, of course, because it's like an honor) to wave huge feathers over me while I eat grapes and watch my TIVO? Oh, and maybe if you can refer to me as "the greatest fanfic writer ever" at all times...

Also, I don't know if she's actually interacted with any professional writers before, but most of the writers I know have other jobs as well for a very long time. The chances of being a JK Rowling are quite slim, especially on the first time out...so what's the plan then? "Sorry, Mr. Publisher, sir, but I can't be expected to write and do other stuff."

And bullshit about disabilities? Girl, please, I know people with real disabilities who work full-time jobs, going to school, and doing writing. Unless stupid is a disability, I don't think it qualifies.

The gall and...I'm just making myself angry thinking about it.

But for real y'all...if you want me to be your kept fanperson...just ply me with slushies and soft pretzels and I'm yours!

Have I mentioned the utter love I have for Entourage? What about 4400? Still haven't watched QAF because it will sadden me that it's really over. I'm not good with that sort of thing - sure, it's fictional, but I'm mental.

[identity profile] duckduck.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've read the wank, although it appears as though the post that inspired said wank has disappeared. Sad, that. I can't fucking believe it. That is a) stupid, and b) EGO!

I can't get down with Entourage at all. My husband loves it and as a result I end up watching it too, but it's just not my thing at all. I want to throttle Turtle every time he walks onto the screen. The husband claims that's the point, but ugh. Can't do it.

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh Turtle can be annoying, but I just love the show so much, especially Ari (played by Jeremy Piven) as the agent. And the stuff with Mandy Moore - it's like she's fanficcing herself!

[identity profile] wookiemonster.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh...in addition to writing, I'm also trying to go back for an advanced degree so I can get picked up by a local magazien or a group somewhere to review books and movies. It won't be for awhile until I get to write "full time." Meh.

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! While it's nice to fantascize about having someone pay you to sit home and write, it's not realistic. And I mean, I'm attempting to get my masters while working full-time and I still write (when I'm not procrastinating).

[identity profile] filwdork.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Can I give you Diet Coke and watch teh TiVo with you?

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but you would have to refer to me by my title of "best fanfiction writer ever" and you'd have to wear a goofy jester's hat.

[identity profile] nam-jai.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite bit of sheer gall was how she was advertising the stories written to order, your request, your money -- except for all the restrictions she placed on what she would write: not this pairing, not that genre, not this, not that, and, the most jaw-dropping to me, nothing too plot-heavy, 'cause that's just too much work. Yes, thinking of a story that actually goes somewhere is indeed hard work; it can be taxing on the brain, I understand, poor little writer. *condescending pat on the head*

[identity profile] tinylegacies.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you serious? I missed out on the original posts - they were all taken down by the time I got home and found out what was going on.

*shakes head*

The stupid people hurt my brain.

[identity profile] nam-jai.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I believe I misspoke. In my reply, I was thinking of a wank a few weeks ago over someone who tried a similar thing -- pay her for a fanfic one-shot of your choice, or pay her to update a long fic she's left dangling. And people jumped all over her for it, it showed up on Fandom Wank, the original post got deleted, etc., etc. That person had the list of "I won't do this or that (including plots)" regarding the potential one-shot requests.

But after reading [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl's post, I went to Fandom Wank on a whim, and now I see a brand new person has been asking to be paid to write fan fiction, and I'm assuming that's the person [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl was talking about.

Sorry! I'm behind on the idiot du jour. :)

[identity profile] tinylegacies.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
Day-um...

*shakes head*

There are just no words...

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
So there was another of these people? Wow! I just...what planet do they live on - and I like the list of rules in giving her money.

Oh the brain hurts thinking about this stuff, especially this latest girl who dragged her innocent collaborators into the fray.

*facepalm* Time to clean out the gene pool!

I LOVE QAF! But I'm hopelessly behind . . .

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
These people are just insane!

And ooooh...when you have a chance to get caught up, take it. season 5 has gotten soooo good in a way that I personally don't think it's been since first season!

[identity profile] dragonsinger.livejournal.com 2005-08-10 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, how did I miss this? Where is this post? *ROTFLOL* I'll only be your minion if you'll be mine in return. :)

http://www.livejournal.com/users/cousinjean/343340.html

She took away the initial post, but everyone's comments are still there...and then she wrote a "goodbye fandom and internets" letter!

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's almost fabulous in it's horridity (is that a word - well, it is now!) - My personal fave part is that she still doesn't seem to *get* why people were upset.

[identity profile] dragonsinger.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
I know. And I think she's older than we are!

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-12 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I want to live at home for free and only have to work part-time! I love that she's not even like...working three jobs, but just one part-time job. Uh...even I find time to work with my full-time job and school.

[identity profile] sylver-one.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
geesh, well, Karma is a bitch, and I think the bitch will slap her in the face one of these days. If she wants to be paid for writing, she should go try and get her work published!

and hte ending of QaF was so bittersweet. I loved it, but hate the series to be over!

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly - you want to write a novel, do it. No one is stopping you. Especially, this girl works part-time and lives at home. So what is she doing with her time now if she wants to write a novel? Does she really think that will change if she fandom supports her?

Still can't bring myself to watch. I'm scared - though last episode made me quite episode with Michael and Brian making up!

[identity profile] nam-jai.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
It did amaze me when I read that she only works part-time anyway. Amid all the yelling at her, this reasonable and thoughtful post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/cousinjean/343340.html?thread=2439724#t2439724) about the use of time was undeservedly lost -- it's probably what she most needs to hear. Heck, I should save it to re-read on days when I feel like complaining I don't have time to write.

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
I agree about that post - that was a definite good point to make. Obviously there are other things she's doing that if she decides writing more important, she can give up. It's sorta like my same reasoning for why I would never even try to save up to take a year off just to write - because I know myself, I'd probably end up just wasting half the time like I do now and then the other half writing.

Who're we talking about here? Point me to the mocking!

http://www.livejournal.com/users/cousinjean/343340.html

she took the post away, but all the comments remain...and then in the next post there is her "farewell fandom, you bitches who judged me unfairly" post.

[identity profile] kittykatz.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ahahahaha. Ah people, you think you can sponge off the internet but alas, karma bites back.

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm personally fond of the fandomwank title "Can't we just buy you and I-Pod?" Hee.

Really, I think I go about fandom the wrong way. I've never offered up my wishlist (outside begging for ficlets and graphics) or asked for money. I should work on that.
ext_21353: (Default)

[identity profile] kittykatz.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
It is a rather nifty title. Kudos to whoever came up with that. LOL. Yes, surely fandom can reap you something greater than feedback! Alas I cannot give you more than my <3333333333333! Would you be willing to settle for general worship instead?

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-12 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
General worship is nowhere near as cool as a slushie or Ipod, but I guess it will have to do:p

[identity profile] kittykatz.livejournal.com 2005-08-14 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. I can't get you an ipod but how about a knitted ipod cover? Assuming you even have one.

[identity profile] lunarknightz.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
*rolls eyes*

Paid fanfic? I so don't think so. *sigh* Of course, there's my dream of one day getting a job to write either comics or novels based on different franchises---but hey, I was gonna be all legal about it so it could be cannon/semi-cannon at least. Of course, to do so, I've gotta create characters of my own to maniputlate first.

Talk about putting the milk before the cow.

The wank is most entertaining, though.

*hands you shiny sash and crown for being ultimate fan type person*

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
::dances about in sash and crown:: It's n ice to be recognized for how totally awesome I am and stuff! Heh-heh.

And yeah, doing novelizations and books like they do with Star Wars, etc. those are all legal and the creator gets a percentage of the money (sometimes even has some say in what is/isn't allowed)...but this girl. Just the audacity of it all and then saying God led her to this answer - can I blame God for all the crummy things I do?

[identity profile] iamtheenemy.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man, I saw this on my daily (ok, thrice daily) perusal of Fandom Wank, and was appalled. Screw being lazy, although she is. The thing I'm pissed about is that she could potentially make a lot of trouble for innocent ficcers like you and me who just love our fandoms and want to write about them for the pure fun of it. Bitch. And it really grates that, like you said, she cannot understand why people are mad or mocking her.

[identity profile] iamtheenemy.livejournal.com 2005-08-11 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
PS-I'm pretty drunk right now, so hopefully that made sense.

[identity profile] storydivagirl.livejournal.com 2005-08-12 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I love her "goodbye cruel internets" post. And you know who she reminds me of in all this...you know!

It's just...so stupid. Especially with the Lee Goldbergs of the world trying to prove that those who write fanfiction are nothing but talentless hacks who steal others work.
