it's friday! yee-haw

Finally, it's Friday. This week has been a torturous and long one at that, but it's almost over. the finish line is in sight and tonight there is a new Joan of Arcadia for the watching. I also must force myself to sit at the computer for the majority of the weekend and write new chapters of both fanfiction and regular works because I'm behind.

Pimping 5...

1. What is the most pimpable fandom you've tried to pimp someone into?

Most definitely Harry Potter because 1) it’s such a massive fandom and 2) there are so many great writers in it. Plus, when you take into consideration how long it takes between books to come out, I’ve been able to pimp people to fanfictions who are going through HP withdrawal.

2. What is the least pimpable fandom you've tried to pimp someone into?

I usually only pimp once someone shows an interest in a fandom and then I pimp like mad. However, I would say getting new blood into the Joan of Arcadia fandom is hard at times—it really needs more fiction and involvement.

3. What fandom would you be interested in having someone pimp you into?

I’m always, always, always on the lookout for 1) good Sarkney and 2) good Michael/Maria from Roswell.

4. What fandom are you currently trying to pimp people into?

I’d really like it if my betas read Joan of Arcadia because it would probably help. Heh.

5. What is your most successful way of pimping someone into a new fandom? Fic recommendations, songvids, episodes, combination, etc?

I lure them in with hot pictures of hot boys and then fic rec them to death.

Hee! I found this entertaining, proving how lame I truly am!

and tend to joke your way out of sticky
situations. You are childish and silly in most
instances, but inside you are a genuinely good
person. Try to be more open to criticism and
remember that it's okay if you aren't the
joke-maker ALL of the time.

Still working on the fic requests. Will continue to do so until they are finished. Feel free to make new requests, but realize that I'm doing them in the order received between this and my regular journal.

Have a great day!

It's Friday and you know what that means? Fannish Five time.

THE FANNISH FIVE [livejournal.com profile] fannish5

How Far Five...

1. How far have you been willing to travel to attend a fannish event?

Um...down the block? I've considered attending the witching hour in Salem, more because I love Salem, but events aren't really my thing. i don't do well around large groups of people--I get masochistic.

Wait...since I was a member of the Nsync fandom, does attending concerts throughout the country qualify as events? Because then, yeah, I do go to stuff.

2. How far have you gone in trying to save a show or to get a sequel?

Signed a petition. I'm a very lazy fan girl.

3. How far have you been willing to overspend on one particular fannish item?

Heh-heh. I've spent tons of money traveling for music groups, but for one particular fannish item...probably 100 bucks for some dvds at most.

4. How far have you been willing to go tracking down a rare fannish item?

For myself? Not very far. When my sister wanted a Slytherin scarf and before they were really released? Very far.

5. How far have you gone to try and pimp someone into a fandom?

I'll force certain friends (Steph, in particular, since we have similar tastes) into watching shows and then she'll ask for fanfiction...but um...not that far.

**

Today is also a good day because I get paid this afternoon and I'm in dire need of money to pay my car insurance that just came in--damn NJ insurance prices! I'm also going to see Brad Pitt and Orlando hotness Bloom in Troy this evening. I have a feeling this movie will either be very good or very bad. I don't think there will be any in-between area.

**

Despite my best efforts to avoid it, I started a Sarkney fic. I'm not going to post it until its complete because given my track record at the moment, I have too many open projects awaiting completion. It's not fair to anyone who reads my stuff or me. I also have a huge regular fiction deadline hovering over my head at the moment--so much fun when all I have inspiration for is fanfiction. Sometimes I wonder how I do these things to myself. Does anyone else do this? Start so many fics while working on others? It's driving me mad.

I'm off to do some work for the remainder of the day.

just got paid...friday night...

I have not watched the Friends finale yet. I’m in no big rush. I shall allow it to sit on my Tivo until I get a chance to see it. I can’t believe it’s already set to come out on dvd on Tuesday. Who needs it that badly that quickly.

Instead last night I watched Joan of Arcadia episodes and pondered possible fics that I could write as well as reviewed some of my old stories and cringed in horror.

I have betas and I, myself, am not completely grammar/spelling retarded, but some of the mistakes I missed are so obvious I wonder what the hell was wrong with me.

Oh well. I’m way too lazy to go back and fix it. I’ve got enough revising/writing to do without going back over fanfictions from a few years ago. But tell that to the Virgo in me that wants everything perfect.

I’m going to see Van Helsing tonight. It’s probably going to trite, campy crap, but it has dracula in it, so I must see it. I have a vampire fetish and to quote Buffy, “I’m under the thrall of the dark lord.”

Saturday will be my assigned “writing” day, so hopefully new chapters of stories will be completed. I make no promises seeing as certain people in my life tend to wait until the last minute to tell me I have plans, but as of now, I hope to have some writing completed.

I’m off to lunch. Have a good day!

fandom fun?

The Fannish Five [livejournal.com profile] fannish5

1. AUs: yes please or what's the point?

Can I say I stand firmly in the middle on this issue? I like certain fandoms to have AU’s, but other fandoms not to—I think it’s all about my insane personal preference—and I also think it falls into a what do you consider to be “alternate universe”. I mean, sometimes it’s quite obvious (i.e. Buffy isn’t the slayer, but Willow is) but couldn’t one consider situations that arise that would be so out of character for a person to be AU? And sometimes those are the best stories—when told correctly, of course.

2. What's the best AU you've read?

My favorite would be the series of Winning Strategy Stories by Jo & Ryo for the West Wing

3. What's the worst AU you've read?

I’ve never read a bad AU through in its entirety. I’m very picky about the fiction I will ingest—unless I’m on a lot of pain killers and then, I usually don’t remember anything anyhow. I once started a Roswell/Harry Potter crossover that was so terrible—not just the fact that it was one big fucking paragraph bad either, really, really bad.

4. How would you like to see your fandom altered that you haven't seen yet?

I would love to see a story about Sydney from Alias crossing over with 24.

5. What AU worked that you never would have expected?

Um…haven’t stumbled upon that goldmine yet.

In other news, I've been writing these two stories. One for Joan of Arcadia, based off a challenge offered on one of the lists, and one for The O.C.. The latter is the one I'm worried about and have decided to wait until it's finished before I even consider sending it to a few betas. I'm not as familiar with that fandom, catching the show only occasionally because it's on opposite Angel and The West Wing, and the inspiration was fed solely from a dream that was relentless in its torture...so chances are it's not very good.

As for Trouble In My Head or Power of Two or whatever other long story you are awaiting an update on--heh-heh. Social obligations are evil. I have a wedding this weekend and then my Sunday has been sucked away from me with film class, errands, and sleep (hopefully). It might be another week before the chapter is finished. (And yes, I realize it doesn't help that the little free time I do have has been wasted on these two stories that no one will get to read anytime soon, but humor me.)

**

I saw the finale of Tru Calling last night--does anyone know if it was picked up for next year or not?--and for the first time all season the show was good. I've always watched because it's Faith and she kicks ass and it's not terrible, but it's not great either and I'm not a Friends person so...I watch.

It figures the finale, possibly the show finale as well as the season, would be the one episode to step up and be good, to offer some insight into things and such. The very ending with her dad? That's evilness right there. I actually care if it comes back now...how the hell did that happen?

The Fannish Five [livejournal.com profile] fannish5

1. What type of fannish interaction do you prefer: conventions, smaller in-person gatherings, mailing lists, newsgroups, blogs/journals, IRC?

Blogs/journals, some mailing lists...from there I'm willing to talk on AIM when I have the time and such...but I tend to avoid conventions and such. Sometimes fandom can scare me.

2. Are you always upset when your show gets canceled or have you ever been (not so) secretly relieved?

It depends on the show. I was pissed when Wonderfalls was cancelled and Angel, but if you were to tell me the West Wing was cancelled after this season? I wouldn't care. I think it all depends on how the quality of the show and characters is maintained--sometimes it's just time to go away.

3. Do you find icons an integral part of lj'ing or would you be just as happy with one icon as with fifty?

I love icons. For my regular journal, I have all fifty of mine in use--I love several fandoms/things/hot boys so it's nice to have a bunch to choose from.

4. Do you prefer to read fanfic in zines or online?

Online.

5. Do you consider yourself FIAWOL* (fandom is a way of life) or FIJAGDH* (fandom is just a goddamn hobby)?

I would be in the FIJAGDH category I'm sure. It's something I do when I have time to kill. I love writing/reading/exploring characters I love from different avenues of pop culture. That's about it. I don't let fandom affect my life.

crossover 5…

1. Crossovers: yes please or what's the point?

I enjoy certain crossovers if they’re done well and it makes sense. I often find myself thinking up certain times I would like to see characters from one area interacting with another. Also, right now…I’m just on an Orlando Bloom/JC Chasez kick, man.

2. What's the best crossover you've read?

I don’t recall the name of it, but there was this West Wing/Sport’s Night crossover that I loved where Dan and Donna went on a date and Josh got jealous. It was greatness. So well written and the idea of Dan/Donna almost made me forget that I’m totally a D/J girl!

3. What's the worst crossover you've read?

Oh, there was this horrific Kindred/Buffy crossover that made me want to poke my eyes out. It was terrible. God awful.

4. What fandom would you like to see crossed with yours?

Again, I want there to be a huge movement in Alias & 24! Sydney Bristow and Jack Bauer working together and falling madly…in lust. That would be great. Think of all the possibilities!

5. What crossover worked that you never would have expected?

Um…I haven’t stumbled upon any yet where I thought going into this would end badly. Usually, it does end badly and tears are shed—my own.

fandom fun, surely you jest!

Chapter Four of Trouble In My Head is now in the hands of my trusy beta-bitches. So once I get it back and get the edits/necessary corrections made, it will be posted. I may even start typing up Part Five tonight to attempt to get back on a schedule of sorts.

But that will remain to be seen, especially since Hedda [livejournal.com profile] imaginaryfields has managed to inspire me to write more Jakey G goodness. Raar.
