The Fannish Five [livejournal.com profile] fannish5

1. AUs: yes please or what's the point?

Can I say I stand firmly in the middle on this issue? I like certain fandoms to have AU’s, but other fandoms not to—I think it’s all about my insane personal preference—and I also think it falls into a what do you consider to be “alternate universe”. I mean, sometimes it’s quite obvious (i.e. Buffy isn’t the slayer, but Willow is) but couldn’t one consider situations that arise that would be so out of character for a person to be AU? And sometimes those are the best stories—when told correctly, of course.

2. What's the best AU you've read?

My favorite would be the series of Winning Strategy Stories by Jo & Ryo for the West Wing

3. What's the worst AU you've read?

I’ve never read a bad AU through in its entirety. I’m very picky about the fiction I will ingest—unless I’m on a lot of pain killers and then, I usually don’t remember anything anyhow. I once started a Roswell/Harry Potter crossover that was so terrible—not just the fact that it was one big fucking paragraph bad either, really, really bad.

4. How would you like to see your fandom altered that you haven't seen yet?

I would love to see a story about Sydney from Alias crossing over with 24.

5. What AU worked that you never would have expected?

Um…haven’t stumbled upon that goldmine yet.

In other news, I've been writing these two stories. One for Joan of Arcadia, based off a challenge offered on one of the lists, and one for The O.C.. The latter is the one I'm worried about and have decided to wait until it's finished before I even consider sending it to a few betas. I'm not as familiar with that fandom, catching the show only occasionally because it's on opposite Angel and The West Wing, and the inspiration was fed solely from a dream that was relentless in its torture...so chances are it's not very good.

As for Trouble In My Head or Power of Two or whatever other long story you are awaiting an update on--heh-heh. Social obligations are evil. I have a wedding this weekend and then my Sunday has been sucked away from me with film class, errands, and sleep (hopefully). It might be another week before the chapter is finished. (And yes, I realize it doesn't help that the little free time I do have has been wasted on these two stories that no one will get to read anytime soon, but humor me.)

I saw the finale of Tru Calling last night--does anyone know if it was picked up for next year or not?--and for the first time all season the show was good. I've always watched because it's Faith and she kicks ass and it's not terrible, but it's not great either and I'm not a Friends person so...I watch.

It figures the finale, possibly the show finale as well as the season, would be the one episode to step up and be good, to offer some insight into things and such. The very ending with her dad? That's evilness right there. I actually care if it comes back now...how the hell did that happen?

Only to alert y'all that I did this silly fandom-related/fanfiction meme in my regular journal.

If you're interested, it's here:

In other news: an hour left to my stupid work week. It's a busy weekend, but at least, I won't be at work.

I added some people to this friends list and what not--trying to more segregrate fandom stuff from regular stuff--in order to stop driving myself and possibly some of my friends list madly insane. LJ makes it so easy to ramble on about any and all fandoms...

That said--if you're friended on my regular journal, I didn't friend you here, so don't freak out that I don't love you! I love you all! heh.

I think I shall go watch the rest of Gilmore Girls and West Wing, which have both been sitting on my TIVO for a bit.

There are new prompts/challenges/exercises/whichever word you prefer up at [livejournal.com profile] quillandink if anyone's interested.

Have a great weekend everyone!

really...

For real...the last update today. I swear, I'm odd. I don't update this journal for weeks and then today I can't seem to stop.

I just found this amusing...

Anna
You are Anna. You're funky and unique and people
are quick to notice your sharp wit. You are
fun to be around and have a magnetic
personality.

Which OC Character are you? ...with pics :-)

New joan of arcadia tonight! Wee! About bloody time! Then it's off to see Mean Girls. I hope it's good--I heart Tina Fey and I would be saddened by a terrible movie.
