Aug. 22nd, 2004 06:54 pmSo part six of Trouble In My Head (better known to some people as the sequel to Rhythm and Blues) went up last night and never do I recall getting so much feedback on how much people despise the character of Frankie. Never has one of my characters been hated so much.
I blame Steph
iamtheenemy for this. Her and her "We Hate Frankie" movement because she's strangely attached to Justin and Laney as a couple. Heh.
And it seems to shock people that I'm actually fond of Frankie. And I've thought about this a little bit. And one thing about it...I think it's extremely hard to write for a character that as the writer you despise. I personally see Frankie as the manipulative type who takes advantage of people's weaknesses--weaknesses he doesn't create. He has not forced Laney to lie to Justin about things. He has not forced Justin to put one of his crazy plans into motion. He simply gets them thinking--and leaves them to their own destruction. Is it a good thing? Nah, but I can't hate him for it.
So it's weird for me because people seem to want some big bad ending for Frankie and that's never been my style. I always liked the idea that there is no over-the-top villain coming between the couples, but their own machinations. And I still maintain that's true in this case. Sure, Frankie is easier to hate than Spencer was in the first--because Spencer was a good guy caught up in Justin and Laney's own denial--but give him a chance. He just might really care about Laney...and Justin and his stupid plan...well, if laney finds out about that, she's going to be really pissed off.

Speaking of my dearest Steph
iamtheenemy, she's decided to run a Multifandom Mary Sue Challenge. I have no choice but to enter, for I am her bitch (and vice versa--it's what comes of such a love fandom-grown friendship), but y'all should give it a look. It looks to be some fun. Not the typical Mary Sue so much as the voyeuristic Mary Sue.

And because I'm procrastinating...
Some random tidbits about a girl named Tommy
1. Buffy the Vampire is my all-time favorite show and I often find myself relating things I see in the world or in my own life to specific episodes of Buffy. I sometimes go to friends, "You're so the Xander...in the Zeppo episode" and such.
2. I have a fictional fetish for guys that smoke. Not so much in real life when I have to smell the Marlboro on them and get sick, but just in movies and stories...Gah. Nothing sexier than a guy who smokes.
3. I've grown up watching ABC soaps since I was an itty bitty baby. I'm madly in love with Rylee on All My Children and despise Kendall. And therefore, can never understand how in all the soap magazines, Kendall/Ryan are people's favorite couple. Really? I hated them together. They had no chemistry. Greenlee and Ryan people. It's where the goodness is at...(well, since I no longer have Leo that is...now that would be a great triangle)
4. I was named after a character from a Jane Austin novel and it's eerie how much alike my personality is with the character I was named after.

Okay, I will write a bit this evening and then read some. I bought a copy of Queen of Everything by Deb Caletti. Nicely written though the subject matter is a bit disturbing in a weird why-is-this-so-disturbing-to-me manner.
Ciao
I blame Steph
