tommygirl: (sky high - warren)
What's a girl to do when Supernatural is in repeats? Aside from ingesting every piece of good fanfic she can get her hands on, she takes to rewatching her dvds of the first 16 episodes over and over and over. Me, obsessive? Who would have thunk it?

If I'm having trouble making it a couple weeks, I fear how I'll feel come summer. Usually, I'm pretty good at making it through tv haituses (though the season 2 cliffhanger of Alias nearly killed me dead!), but ugh. I've grown quite attached to these boys.

Not much else to report. I got sucked into these young adult books by Scott Westerfeld. It's a trilogy that starts with The Uglies, followed by The Pretties, and now I'm waiting the last few weeks until the last book in the series, The Specials comes out. Don't let the name fool you. It's really intriguing. Set around the idea of a utopia, where everyone on his/her 16 birthday becomes pretty...but things aren't as perfect as it seems. The books are quick, easy reads, but enjoyable. I started the one and couldn't put it down.

I should be writing. Should be finishing up my remix. I'm not. Maybe I'll work on it today. Yesterday was hell in the office, but today seems a bit better.
tommygirl: (supernatural - family)
It's funny to me that there is such a large portion of the Supernatural fandom that dislikes Papa even more than Sam seemed to at the beginning of the season. (Though, it doesn't seem to be anyone on my friends list - we all seem to be on the same "Papa rocks" page for the most part.) And I guess by funny what I really mean is I don't understand why people hate Papa.

Whatever you think of the lifestyle choices he made for himself and the boys, he was always their father. Sure, we get the idea via both canon and fanon that Dean was much more of the caregiver in the family, for Sam and probably his father as well. But I do believe that when he was needed John knew how to be the dad. And it's obvious from the small amounts we've seen him on screen that he loves his children.

Even without seeing him on the screen, I think that it's obvious somewhere along the line that John has done right by the boys because of Dean's devotion to him. Sam calls it "blind faith", but I don't think that's how Dean works. I think John has proven himself again and again to Dean and that's why Dean loves him. It also helps that Dean appreciates the quest that the family is on, I guess.

But I don't know. What are y'all's thoughts on this? Because I just don't understand the Papa hate. Has he made mistakes? Sure, but that doesn't make him a monster. It pretty much makes him like every parent out there, except his mistakes involve the supernatural.

ETA: As usual, [livejournal.com profile] trollprincess manages to summarize her version of papa in a way that totally matches the way I see him: http://trollprincess.livejournal.com/973716.html?#cutid1

Can you tell it's nearing the end of the day at work and I'm bored out of my mind? My head and eyes are hurting from staring and updating contact information all day long. Sometimes my job is not so great.
