So let's get right to it and discuss last night's Supernatural. I will try to keep my squeeing to a minimum, but really, Dean and Sam are so hot, I sometimes can't control myself...

Episode 2.4 - Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things

The episode name is like an old school Nsync song title. Good god.

Dear Sam,

I love that you wanted to visit your mother's grave and that you brought your father's tags to bury there. You know Dean was going to take you so don't bring up the separating bit. You know he wouldn't have any of that, not after everything you've been through and you're all he has. But don't psych101 him, okay? Because he's Dean and he'll break when he's ready.

And dude, trust him when it comes to evil things. Okay? He was right in
Faith and he's right now.

I still love you lots.

Tommygirl

P.S. - Cut your hair.

Dear Dean,

You are such a woobie and I love you! I will hug you and make out with you and let you kill all sorts of bad things.

Love,

Tommygirl

Anyway, again, the monster of the week wasn't that interesting, but the effects it had on the boys and what they've been going through made it highly intriguing. You have Dean who is so full of anger and grief and yet he still knows that you don't bring people back from the dead, that they don't come back right (Again, I love Kripke, but subtlety is not his strong suit. Why not just have Dean scream "I shouldn't have come back! I'm a mess now!"). It's really a reversal of the earlier episodes of season one, where Sam was the ticking timebomb of fury and Dean was the one reeling him in. Now, it's Sam trying to hold onto his brother and get through to him.

And I love that Sam is taking it. That he offers to let Dean hit him again. That he reiterates that Dean doesn't have to go through this alone. That he can't lose Dean in all of this too. Because, while it might not work immediately, Sam is the one who is going to get through to Dean, just like vice versa. I mean, John knew what he was doing when he sacrificed himself. Because, while I love John, and I know that Sam loved John, I'm pretty sure that the only thing that will keep Sam intact is Dean...the only one who doesn't always realize that, of course, is Dean.

And that goddamn last scene nearly killed me dead. Dean pulling over and letting all his guilt out, letting his anger out, wondering how Sam doesn't hate him for taking Dad away. And again, it goes into what I said above - I don't think Sam would've survived losing Dean, but he's smart enough not to say that. Because that's not what Dean needs to hear right then. And Sam doesn't pretend to have the words to make it alright, but he sits ohsoclose to Dean on the hood of the car and listens.

Gah.

Those two break my freaking heart. I love them so much. And really, Kripke knows exactly what matters most to me when it comes to a show. I could care less about over-the-top plots, so long as I'm getting the great character relationships.

Next week's preview looks really interesting. Wonder if we'll finally learn what John whispered in Dean's ear.
