I. AM. BORED.

And I'm not having any luck writing. This is why I prefer my "just go where the characters take you sort of writing." Because I know where I want to get to, but do you think Sam Winchester will let me do that? Oh no, he's being a pissy little bitch. He's enjoying my torment. I know it.

So in lieu of that, I bring you some *fun*

Interim Thursday Ten (aka Tuesday Ten a few days late):

1. If you could pick your own theme song, what would it be? “Fool Out of Me” by Idina Menzel pretty much sums up my life at any given moment.

2. What song would you want played at your funeral? It’s already planned. Important people are aware that there will be a distribution of pimp hats and then Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” will come on.

3. Who's your favourite movie bad-guy, and why? Meryl Streep in Devil Wears Prada. I’d kill myself if I had a boss like that and yet, you couldn’t completely hate her character.

4. What was the last thing that you ate? a soft pretzel

5. Who was the last person you shared a meal with? my co-workers. We had a lunch staff meeting today.

6. What’s been your WORST cooking disaster? I once messed up on boiling water. I’m not very handy in the kitchen.

7. When you organize your holidays, are you a plan everything out, book everything up front or wing it kinda person? Nope, unless I have to. As the holidays get closer and people want to do get-togethers and such, I do actually have to plan/reserve time. But in the beginning I’m like, “Whenever…uh…wherever…uh…sure.”

8. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why? I used to want to be named Patricia and to go by Tricia. It was mostly because no one had my name or could spell it (still can’t) and it annoyed me. But now I love my name. Still annoys me when people spell it wrong. Let’s just set the record straight. There are not THREE r’s in Marianne.

9. If you could be famous for anything, what would you want it to be? My Oscar-winning screenplays.

10. If you could meet any famous person, who would it be? Just one? That’s like…mean. I’d probably go for someone like President Clinton. Because I want someone I can have a conversation with, but I also don’t want someone that I would freak out and forget how to speak around (as I fear meeting Ben Affleck would do to me).

Sum up your former/current fandoms in a few sentences, as if they were human beings/very convincing sockpuppets on your flist. All of these are fandoms that I have written in. Guess which fandom I'm talking about!

1. I feel like an abusive boyfriend with you at times. There are days where I just want to punch you in the face because all you do is whine and drive me crazy…but then other days you remind me of why I once loved you and you look really pretty. I wish I knew how to quit you, but six years is hard to give up on.

2. I was sad to see you go when you left, but it was time. Beyond time actually. I still do love visiting with you in fanfiction.

3. You own my soul!

4. I never expected you to become a part of my life. We have nothing in common. You’re obsessed with something that I couldn’t care less about. And yet, I love you.

5. In the real world, I would be afraid of you and the nonchalant way you piss on the bill of rights and such things, but god, for five days, I’ve loved every minute of you, even when you do horribly unconstitutional things to other people.

6. You’ve been gone for a few years and I still miss you. I don’t miss the “you” at the end because you really sucked, but I miss the early you, the “you” with promise and potential and the creation of a pairing that I still love.

7. We’ve always been on more of an acquaintance basis. Because I love the canon that your fandom is about, but the fandom, quite frankly, scares me senseless.

8. Dude, it’s your fault I’m writing fic. Well, fanfiction. Damn you pretty singing boys! Damn you to a life of servitude for a big fat man named LOU! (Oh wait…)

[livejournal.com profile] ignipes posted an interesting question on what makes you click on a recced story. I especially found it interesting as half of the duo responsible for [livejournal.com profile] polyfandomrecs. I mean, I'm not sure I'd stop doing recs the way that I already do, but I think it's interesting to see the things that people look for in a rec. It's something to keep in the back of my mind when I do a recs update. I do have to agree with the main one of how it does depend on how much you trust the person reccing you the story. It's all about finding a reccer that constantly provides you with links to stories that you both share a mutual enjoyment of. I try to avoid phrases like "best story ever" and "we like good stuff" because that's quite subjective.

It's funny that this discussion began today when I've been pondering the whole "what makes a story a worthwhile" rec thing. Because I read a lot of fanfiction, but I only rec a small amount of it. And it's not that the majority of the fanfiction I read isn't good (because I have no qualms about x'ing out of the really bad fic), but that it just wasn't really memorable when I'm putting my lists together. And I think, for me, that's really the biggest piece of criteria (I've gone on about what I look for in fic I'm reading many times before and will spare you all) that I have - the story is memorable. Whether it's from a really original plot, a style of writing that is brilliant, some really great banter that sticks with me...that separates it from me thinking "good story, what's next" and me reccing it.

Quick pimpage before I go:

Hey Supernatural fandom artists? Have you checked out [livejournal.com profile] spn_color? Submissions are due by December 22nd

[livejournal.com profile] spn_christmas has opened the post for claiming prompts here. Tons of holiday themed Winchester fic could be ours, people. And some of the prompts are just hysterical.
