Dear Yuletide Author letter

tommygirlI just received my assignment, so I figured it was time to post my Dear Yuletide Author letter.
Dear Yuletide Author:
Let me start with a tremendous thank you and I'm so excited. The fact that you were willing to write one of these fandoms is wonderful and no matter what, I know I'll love whatever you come up with.
Please take as little or as much of this as you want into consideration. I know some writers like a lot of information to work with (like myself) and others can find it to hinder their creative processes. This letter is to provide some ideas and help, but as I love these fandoms and characters, I'd honestly be pleased with almost anything.
So the basics: I’m storydivagirl on LJ and tommygirl on DW. I’m maredarlin on twitter and I have a tumblr -http://destinyisdeafening.tumblr.com/ - but I’m more of reblogger of things when the whim hits me rather than a true user of the site. I'm not nearly as involved in fandom as I used to be, but I’m always reading fic and bookmarking it to eventually rec. Under the tag of "challenges: yuletide" you can find past letters and information if that helps (I think most of it is unlocked).
Things in fic I love: hurt/comfort (with happy endings), schmoop, happy endings, domestic fic, jealousy/possessiveness (without going over into uber creepy territory), banter, crossovers (as long as I know the fandoms), close familial units, awesome besties/partners that have each other’s backs, cuddles, fun, angst if it ends happily and lots and lots of banter.
Things in fic I dislike: Please no rape/noncon/dubcon/child-animal harm pieces for me. It’s not my cup of tea. I don’t mind angst, but I’d like it to be somewhat sorted out and for my character’s to have a chance at happy endings.
My feelings on AUs – I enjoy a great genderbend. I do enjoy crossovers that make sense and don't turn all the characters OOC. I like some of the other AUs out there, but it's not my go-to for stories if I'm searching for things to read.
Overall, I like the characters to be true to who they are in whatever story they end up in. If you give me that, I'll love whatever you written (again, as long as it doesn't go into the rape/noncon/dubcon/harm world. I just can't read that stuff.)
So the actual requests. Please note these weren’t done in any particular order and the notes below are ideas and things I'd like to see, but again, tell your story.
1. Ghostbusters (2016) - Abby Yates, Jillian Holtzmann, Erin Gilbert, Patty Tolan
So many wonderful things that could be done with this. What happens after the movie ends? How did Abby and Jillian come to meet? Anything Holtzmann centric at all!
I love Holtzmann! So if you want to go Jillian-centric that's cool by me. I don't really ship the women together, but I love the friendships and bonds they share. There is a deep love and trust between them and I'd love to see that explored. But really, there are so many possibilities with this. How do they move forward as the movie ends? Are there any lingering side effects for Abby and Erin from being nearly sucked into that portal? Does Kevin finally pick a good picture of himself to use? (And feel free to add Kevin if you want - I was limited to choosing four characters, but Kevin was adorable).
2. Killjoys - Johnny Jaqobis, D'avin Jaqobis, Alvis Akari, Dutch
I really adore this show. It's fun and the relationships make it so worthwhile. I'd love some brotherly bonding. I'd love some Johnny and Dutch take on the world, whether it's before the show starts or amidst all the chaos. And I find the idea of Johnny/Alvis very intriguing. They seem so different in so many ways, and yet I think they relate to each other in a way.
Johnny is my favorite character. I love everything about him. I love his relationship with Dutch. I love watching his relationship with his brother start to rebuild. He's the soul of the crew and everyone (except maybe him) seems to know it. I'm a huge sucker for sibling relationships and anything with Johnny and D'Avin would be great. While it seems Johnny has forgiven D'Avin for the stabbing in season one, has D'Avin forgiven himself?
And yes, I do like the idea of Johnny/Alvis. I can't explain why they are so appealing but I think they are a case of the "odd fit right from the start." And it woud be interesting to see how they deal with things.
3. The Good Place - Chidi Anagonye, Eleanor Shellstrop
You can throw in other characters from the show if you want, but I love Chidi and Eleanor's "soulmate" relationship.
I love Chidi and his relationship with Eleanor. I love that they're friends and that whether Eleanor is ready to admit it, Chidi is making her a better person. I love the idea that it wasn't really a mistake that Eleanor ended up there and that Chidi really is her soulmate. There are so many possibilities in this world and I'd love to see basically anything with Chidi and Eleanor. Feel free to include flashbacks from their lives on Earth if you want (like the show tends to do) and any other characters are welcome if you want.
4. The Martian (2015) - Mark Watney, Chris Beck
It's not that I can't appreciate the canon relationship that Chris and Beth share, but I just love Mark & Chris, whether it's friends or more.
So yes, as stated above, I enjoy the canon relationship between Chris and Beth, but I really love Mark and Chris. If you want to just focus on their friendship or go with the pairing, either is fine by me. I'd love fic set in the direct aftermath of the rescue and getting back. I'd love Chris being super protective and in the beginning Mark likes it, but then he starts to get annoyed. I'd love an established relationship that has to deal with the repercussions of one of them spending years alone and having to learn to be around other people again and the other mourning and grieving for someone only to find out Mark's alive. So many possibilities to explore the bond between them.
5. Stranger Things - Jonathan Byers, Will Byers, Joyce Byers, Mike Wheeler
I really enjoyed this show. I loved every character and all of the relationships. I did especially love the familial unit of the Byers and I wish we got to know Will more.
SO this is another one where you can feel free to bring in other characters, especially the rest of the kids because they were all awesome, But I'd really love a fic that focuses on Will and his family dealing with everything in the aftermath. Again, because I have my great sibling love, I'd love fic that focuses on Jonathan and Will. I'd love to see how Will fits back in with his friends - do they think he's different? Does he feel different? Does he try to pull away from everyone, but they won't let him? How does a kid deal with processing what happened to him and then hearing stories about things that he wasn't around for?
6. The Real O'Neals - Kenny O'Neal, Jimmy O'Neal, Pat O'Neal
Family bonding time in the way only the O'Neals can do.
I adore this show. It's funny and charming and captures the Irish Catholic life so well. I love Kenny and Jimmy's relationship (I love Shannon too, but she wasn't listed, so include her as you wish). I would love some attempts with Pat trying to bond with Jimmy and Kenny more, maybe trying to like things that Kenny does (or that he thinks Kenny does). I like how much they can sometimes not get each other, but still love one another and mean well.
So basically, that's it. Take what you want from this letter or ignore it completely. Try not to pull your hair out (I'm already considering it with my assignment) and I hope you have fun writing it. I know I'll enjoy the finished product no matter what route you go in.
Now I shall go start pondering what I'm gonna write.
