characters are our friends...
Jul. 1st, 2004 09:09 amRead the latest chapter of Underwater Light by Maya. All I will say is that it's quite evil to end a chapter like that. Evil. Loved it though. I really love her Draco. He makes me happy because he maintains that bratty/sometimes mean demeanor while all the while being much more wellrounded than Rowling has accounted for. And it's no real secret that Draco is my crush. I love the blond pretty boys who are quasi-evil. Good chapter, freaky chapter, everyone read chapter.
But it did get me to thinking (a dangerous thing) how there are certain characters that I adore so much more in fandom than in canon such as Draco. His purpose in the canon seems to be an annoyance, a one-dimensional pain in the ass for harry potter who spouts out slurs and such. And that makes me sad because in the beginning, I could tell myself, "He can be redeemed. He's 11--no one stays this bratty." But I don't know how he can come back after OOTP. Then again, look at the glimpses we got of Sirius and James--they weren't exactly nice when they were fifteen.
It's so...all over the place.
So the confusion of Draco's outcome saddens me--and that's why I turn to fanon. Because there, when he's written right, he has all these other characteristics aside from being mean. He's complex, he's got a heart (that is often well hidden, of course), and he is capable of being more than that sniveling little twit that we so often see in the canon. And that's what I love about Draco. I love the unfulfilled potential. I mean, with Harry, you know what he'll become. He was born into it and has grown into it very well. He knows what his role is as does everyone else. He's going to battle Voldemort.
Anyway...
read the new chapter. It's fabulousness.

Working on getting the new domain (http://www.strawtogold.net) up and running as well as finishing ficathon pieces and some unfinished chapters of stuff.
Took a break to see Spiderman 2 last night. It should be called Spiderman 2: The Mush because there was so much mushy/romantic parts to this one with lots of crying from so many different characters. Still a great movie though. Still loved it. And most definitely loved my hot boys! (I didn't know it was possible for James Franco to look hotter--but he did!)
Saw the preview for the next Blade movie with Ryan Reynolds. Ryan Reynolds in leather! YUM. I really enjoy these movies--they're the good type of campy vampire movie that makes me happy.

Off to write some and do some actual work as well. Much to do before the weekend.
