it's friday time!

Oh, it's one of those Fridays that's going to drag on at work. I can feel it. Though I am having fun, now that I am done with evil project of doom for office, with
win_non_con. Most of the rooms are officially open now, so be sure to check it out and have some fun! And there are still many more wonderful things to come.
On the bright side of the office, our boss, who is always doing these nice things for his staff to show us how much he appreciates us (dude, he is the polar opposite of my boss from many years ago). He bought a freaking PS2 with about 20 games for our lunch room. Last year, he bought us a dvd player and a bunch of movies. Needless to say, I haven't gotten much reading done on my lunch break this week. Instead, I play Mortal Kombat with my co-worker over lunch. Fun times.

Let's talk some television:
Episode 2.3 - Bloodlust
First, the new music video montage at the beginning is my most favorite thing ever. It's like fanvids. I adore it and hope it keeps up. And there was JOURNEY.
Dude, the Impala is back and Dean is the most amazing mechanic in the entire universe. Seriously, to go from what it looked like in the premiere to so perfect? Gah. And Dean actually *smiled* and called his car "baby" again. Double gah.
I miss Papa Winchester something awful, but I have got to say that the writers are doing some marvelous things with his death and how it affects both Sam and Dean. Dean is battling with his grief, thinking that if he gets everything back to normal, he'll be fine...and he thinks that he has to hold it together for Sam because that's his job, especially after his father told him to take care of Sam during In My Time of Dying. Not only is he battling the grief, but he's trying to figure out who he is without his father around to tell him. Because he always was "daddy's little soldier" and it was a role he enjoyed. It's going to be an interesting and hard road for Dean for awhile, not to mention whatever his father whispered to his has got to be taking its toll.
And then there is Sam, who is battling with his guilt and grief, and also trying so hard to hold onto the only family he has left. It's funny because I see a reversal of roles here from first season in many ways. Sam was the one so full of anger and closed off and didn't think anything was more important than killing the demon. Now this season, he's realized Dean was right about the importance of family in Devil's Trap...everything that happened at the end of season one and this season so far has led to Sam understanding how important his family is to him and that he can still be himself without disowning where he comes from. He's also the one who's allowing Dean to step up and be angry and let loose if he needs to - the whole punch scene is evidence of that - while he tries to hold it together for Dean.
Mostly though, I love the dynamic between the brothers so much. It's what originally hooked me on this show and it's what continues to bring me back for more. Because Sam and Dean truly love and like each other. They can fight and say things that the other doesn't want to hear and still be there for one another completely.
How much did I squee when Sam said that "only dean can call me Sammy"? God, I loved it. Not just because Sam is so very jealous of Gordon (come on - he's all "Dean, why don't you talk to me like you talk to Gordon? Don't you love me anymore?"), but of where it says those two are with their relationship. No longer does Sam bother to fight Dean when he calls him that, he just accepts it because it's Dean.
And that end scene with Dean and Sam by the Impala, where Dean begins to wonder about hunting and what exactly makes them different from the monsters and how it scares him, was probably one of the most powerful moments between these two - and they've had plenty. I love how he admits that Sam being the pain in the ass (aka his conscience) is what keeps him from being Gordon, and Sam's response is perfect. Because they both get it now. And because I think on so many levels what will always separate Dean from becoming like Gordon is his undying devotion to his brother. Dean could never hunt down his brother and kill him, no matter what was happening or how evil he was perceived to be. It's Sammy and that's always been what has kept him going.
Dear Kripke,
Loved the shout out that the morgue guys name tag read "Manners" on it.
Also, subtle foreshadowing is not a concept you understand, is it? I was waiting for us to see the big neon sign that says "Sam might be EVIL and Dean will have to RE-EXAMINE what EVIL is!"
Tommygirl
God, I love this show. I love every single damn character on this show. Well, except for Lamb at the moment because his reaction to a woman reporting a rape should NOT be what it was. Asshole. But it does show the nice dichotomy of the woman officer who was understanding and trying to console while getting the information and then the man who just doesn't GET IT.
I felt bad for Mac's roommate until she unleashed on Veronica. While I understand she's in a bad place, dude, no one would have interrupted something like that if they stumbled upon it. Unless they knew DAMN sure it was concensual. It's a no-win situation.
Wallace and Logan are friends. They make bets and take part in projects together.
One of the things I truly enjoy about VM is that Veronica is not perfect. She doesn't always see people for who they are, too caught up in what she perceives to be true, and because of it, it leads her to make mistakes. But she tries and she seems to learn from each encounter. And I think that's part of what makes her such a great character. She's human - she has great moments of triumph and others where she wishes she could do things differently.
I loved Veronica and Dick's scene at the party. Where he was convinced there was a lame version of him in an alternate universe. Hee.
Logan running naked through his classroom and Wallace's response is possibly my favorite thing ever.
Aww, no Piz. ::secretly dances about::
where the hell is Weevil? I want Weevil on my screen dammit.
I'm glad Papa Mars is okay. I couldn't handle anything happening to him. He's my favorite papa in all of television. But honestly, that storyline is really stupid. Couldn't care less...at least not right now. Who knows? this show does have an uncanny ability to take something that seems stupid and turn it on its head later on.
I haven't seen Heroes, Ugly Betty, or Smallville yet. Hope to get to them this weekend. Also, I'm so pissed off because my DVR didn't record the last Eureka or Project Runway properly. It's just a black screen. DVR maker is so lucky I know how to illegally download things! Bastards.

Am still pondering what i want for
yuletide. A few of the things I was considering have already been nominated by
iamtheenemy, proving once again why she is my cyber daughter. The only two I'm definitely sure of are road to avonlea and earth 2. That's four more slots to consider. Hhhmmm...

SPN FRIDAY FIVE
spn_fridayfive:
1. Who in the Supernatural world can you relate to the most? Why?M Dean Winchester. I'm an emotionally-unavailable older sibling myself.
2. What do you think has been the scariest monster of the week in Season One? the demon in John's body. Because whatever he did hurts that much more with John's face.
3. If Jess had never died, do you think Sam would still have (eventually) joined the search for John? No, I don't think so. Not unless he got news from Dean that something BAD had happened to John...or maybe if something bad happened to Dean and Sam realized his brother can't do it alone.
4. Why do you think Dean's eyes were bleeding in Bloody Mary? I have no freaking clue, but I would love to know.
5. What do you think of John's role as a father? Do you believe he neglected his kids and should have done better, or that he did the best he could under the circumstances? I think Papa Winchester did the best that he could considering all that happened to them. Not only did he lose his wife and found himself in the difficult position of raising two small boys alone, but he discovered that there was real evil out there in a way he didn't know existed before. He was scared for his kids and angry and it led him where it did. I don't doubt that he loved his kids (proven so much in In My Time of Dying) and that he had the best of intentions. That doesn't mean he didn't make mistakes. All parents do, his just tended to be on a bigger scale.

Alrighty, I'm off.

Date: 2006-10-13 06:41 pm (UTC)Your VM write up was spot on. I honestly didn't even notice Piz wasn't there until the end *shrug*. And I keep hearing that again and again, you would think they would get the hint. And next week brings Weevil back - thank GAWD! *hugs*

Date: 2006-10-13 06:48 pm (UTC)As for Veronica: I love that she is sometimes wrong too, but I hope she can un-do this ep's damage.
