So it's Friday morning and that means it's time for my review of last night's Supernatural

Episode 2.8 - Crossroad Blues

Dear Dean,

Please realize soon how much your brother loves you and needs you. Please realize that your father didn't just save you for himself or you, but for Sammy as well.

Love,

Tommygirl

This was an interesting episode for bringing Dean's worries and anger to the forefront without forcing Sam to continue to prod. And I think that's good because after the scene on the car where Dean unloaded, I'm not sure Sam would continue to prod because he doesn't have the answers...all he can do is be there for Dean when he does want to unload.

But this way the writers could have us see Dean really trying to deal with it and the enormous amount of anger he has toward his dad that came out when talking with Evan. How he wasn't saving his wife for her benefit, but his own, and that didn't he realize how much losing him would hurt the people he left behind.

I loved how Sam was trying to walk the line between understanding where Dean was coming from, but still demanding that Dean stop being a dick to these people.

More than that? I loved that the old guy agreed with Dean on the situation...that he made his deal, that he knew what he was doing and he would accept what came of it. Because these people weren't like the normal ones that Dean and Sam try to save. They really did bring it upon themselves.

And I think the only reasons Dean caved were because 1) Sam's bitchface is a scary thing to go up against, even for Dean Winchester and 2) the similiarities to what John did. Evan didn't use his pact to become famous or rich, but to save his wife. And no matter how angry Dean is toward his father, I think he understands that motivation - because I don't think Dean would ever hesitate to offer himself up in place of Sam.

I had a feeling there was the second trap that Dean had set up, but I can't say that I didn't worry that Dean would just try to undo everything. I'm not sure he'd go for the extra ten years so much as just fixing it to have his father back. And the demon taunting Dean with the stuff about his father suffering. Ouch. My poor, Dean.

And seriously, y'all. I love Sam Winchester. I love him a whole lot, but god, that is nothing compared to the amount of love/adoration/worry that I feel during every episode for Dean.

And that last scene nearly ripped my heart out. With Dean going on about how he couldn't believe his father did that, that his legacy was to go out killing the demon and blah, blah, blah. And it's funny (and completely perfect) how things have changed to where Sam realizes that Dad's legacy was the helping people and him and Dean. That nothing was more important to John than Sam and Dean, including revenge against the demon.

And you so know that Sam wanted to admit to Dean how much he needed him and that though it was an impossible choice, he couldn't imagine losing his brother. And I just want Dean to realize that at some point.

My poor boys.

And then, of course, evil Kripke with the "SOON" montage. I don't want to wait. I want it now. I am Veruca from Willy Wonka and I want new Sam and Dean right NOW! Especially that scene with what John whispered to Dean.

TELL ME, DAMN YOU!

Overall, great episode.

Also, anyone else watch the CW commercial for the new guitar game? With Justin and Jared playing against each other? My mind immediately went to the dirty!wrong!bad place with Jared and Justin having their own little wager on the side that winner gets to make out with Jensen. And Jared's all a protective little bitch and must win to keep hot Justin from stealing his beloved Jensen away.

The Supernatural Friday Five ([livejournal.com profile] spn_fridayfive):

1.) What is the one moment in the series so far where you've felt like stopping the actions of a character?

There aren’t really any moments I would stop the actions of a character. I think they all add to the development of the characters and their relationships. I mean, a part of me wishes John Winchester didn’t sacrifice himself, but it was him or Dean, and Dean’s more important to me, to the show, and to Sammy.

2.) If Sam or Dean were President/Prime Minister how do you think they'd run the country? Sam would so be the “we must work together to come up with a solution” whereas I see Dean just being very direct and frightening when he needed to be to get what he saw as necessary done. And god help you if you screwed with Dean Winchester and/or his country…it would be interesting though between Sam and Dean, who do the people choose – the guy you trust or the guy you feel will protect you.

3.) Will what John told Dean about Sam and the children like him make Sam feel better or worse, once Dean passes it on? Oh, I don’t think it’s good news so I’m sure it’s not going to make Sam feel better about his powers or the plans the demon has. But I think it will once again been Dean that makes Sam feel better about it. Because there is nothing that Sam could do that would make Dean lose faith in him or stop loving him and I’m pretty sure Dean will make that quite clear to Sam.

4.) Kripke has assured us that the Dean/Jo relationship is inevitable. How would YOU like to see it handled? Well, define relationship. I think they’ve set it up for the time being to be a really interesting big brother/little sister, mentoring type of relationship. I think Dean sees a lot of himself in Jo. He sees the options she has open to her that he never had, but he also understands the urge to want to protect people and keep people safe when he’s one of the few who knows how to do that. I also like the idea of Dean having someone outside Sam that he can count on should Sam ever go back to a normal life. Because I don’t want Dean all alone in the end. As far as moving it to a romantic place, I that’s something that could possibly come out over a long period of time. I don’t see it as something that can be rushed. First, because Dean is not in the head place for any deep relationships. Second, I really do think Dean currently sees her as a little sister type role. I’m sure he recognizes her hotness, but the fact that he doesn’t hit on her makes that whole little sister thing more obvious to me…and I think it would take a lot of time for Jo to be able to move out of that sort of zone.

5.) Kripke talks about Jo/Dean, but what would you like to see in regards to Sam's love life? Should Sarah come back? A new character altogether? Stay single for the fangirls? Well, I mean, since I’m not getting my Sam/Dean happily ever that [livejournal.com profile] poisontaster has created and I adore, I would want Sam to be happy and have someone in his life. I liked Sarah plenty for the little interaction we saw of her with Sam and maybe she could be someone…but honestly, Sam is still learning who he is, growing into the person he was meant to be, one that is not dictated by his father or his need to do the OPPOSITE of what his father wants…and I think that he needs to figure himself out before he can really have a relationship that lasts.

Alrighty, I'm going to catch up on the friends list, start working on my RPS Advent piece and then do some Nano stuff.

I knew your mind would go there during the Jared and Justin playing that guitar game commercial. *LOL*

And I couldn't agree more with your assessments. Poor, poor Dean.

Aw, sign my name to that letter to Dean, too. Poor boy doesn't know how much he's worth.

"I had a feeling there was the second trap that Dean had set up, but I can't say that I didn't worry that Dean would just try to undo everything. I'm not sure he'd go for the extra ten years so much as just fixing it to have his father back."

I know, I was on edge throughout that whole scene cause even bargaining with the devil seems like stepping very close to the seal-the-deal line to me.
