Is it possible to die from sinus pain?

So today was pirate day and I slept through most of it thanks to the evils of sickness. It's the same sinus infection from over a month ago and my doctor seriously looked at me and said, "I really don't know what we can do besides surgery at this point." I really don't want to do so surgery. My co-worker had it done and swears by it, but I don't do well with hospitals.

Um...I'm a day late and a dollar short with this, as the only pirate AU fic I even know about is my own in SGA-verse, and it feels silly to rec one's own fic. Even though I had so much fun writing it because, well...pirate AU! As soon as I read your post I thought Yay! more pirate AU fic to read! But sadly, no one appears to have replied yet. Perhaps, like me, they're merely late.
