Holiday Drabble # 2
Title: Merry Flipping Christmas
Rating: PG
For: [livejournal.com profile] zeplum
Fandom: Veritas the Quest
Characters: girl!nikko & calvin
Prompt: Pissy girl!Niko and Calvin stuck babysitting in some swank European hotel during the holiday. Juliet is off being a Canadian popstar, or something

Nicole clicked through the limited number of stations the hotel provided, groaning in frustration. She stopped for a few minutes on some cheesy Christmas movie, but it was too dumb to hold her attention. She sighed, dropped the remote in a huff, and stretched out on the sofa. She stared at the ceiling and said, “I’m bored.”

Calvin grabbed the remote off the floor where it had landed and said, “You’re annoying would be a more accurate statement.”

She rolled her eyes and said, “Clever, Chuck.”

“How did I get stuck with this gig?” he muttered.

“You begged my father to spend more time with me. I can’t say I blame you. I’m gorgeous and way out of your league,” she said.

“Or your father felt bad for all you put Juliet through on a daily basis and gave her a vacation.”

“Excuses, excuses…I’m still bored.”

“I don’t care.”

She turned her gaze to him and looked him over appraisingly. Nicole thought of Calvin like a puzzle. When she first met him, she wrote him off as the geeky sidekick to her father’s bizarre work. But he had proved to be more than that and sometimes, he was almost a decent adversary.

“Nice sweater,” she commented with a smile.

“My mother made it for me.”

“She sure has interesting taste.”

“Drop it, Nicky.”

“How can I? You’re wearing a sweater with a cat in a Santa hat,” she replied. Cal turned up the volume on the television and pretended to be invested in the movie. Like that could stop her. She was bored and she was locked up in a hotel room in Paris with a babysitter. No matter how much her father tried to make things different, some things were still the same – her alone on Christmas. She crossed her arms and said, “This is a stupid movie. I don’t want to watch this.”

Calvin groaned and said, “Stop being a pain in the ass.”

“Then don’t make me watch this crap.”

“You went through the channels about a billion times and—"

“—because there is nothing on.”

Cal glared at her with his best “I’m going to murder you in your sleep” look, but Nicole was unfazed. She stood up, flattening out the wrinkles in her skirt, and said, “We’re going out.”

“No, we’re staying put. Like your father said.”

“Do you always do what you’re told?”

Cal laughed and said, “It’s not going to work. Sit down and shut up.”

“Look at me, Chuck,” she said, spinning slowly to show off her outfit and every curve. She pushed her hair back off her shoulders and said, “I look too good to stay inside some dreary hotel room when the city of Paris is calling my name.”

“No one is calling your name.”

“I’m going out.”

“Nicky…”

She started toward the door, but before she could make a move for her coat, Chuck was in front of her. He said, “Sit down.”

“No.”

“Nicky, I'm not afraid to lock you in your room."

"Kinky."

He ignored her. "Your father wanted…”

“My father dumped me here with you on Christmas Eve so he doesn’t get a say.”

“It doesn’t work that way.”

She shook her head and said, “When are all of you going to get it? I’ve taken care of myself for a long time. I don’t need a babysitter.”

She tried to maneuver around Calvin, but mid-step, he muttered something indiscernible and grabbed her. He threw her over his shoulder and dumped her back on the sofa, hovering over her with a pissed off expression on his face. “When are you going to stop this shit, Nicky? You know why you can’t go gallivanting out there, but still you’ve got to push it.”

“No, I don’t know why I can’t go gallivanting. I’m not a child.”

“Stop acting like one,” he snapped. He took a deep breath and sat down next to her. He said, “Right now there are some bad people who want to hurt you and your father. You know that as well as anyone.”

“It almost sounds like you care,” she replied.

Cal rolled his eyes. “Your father would kill me if anything happened to you while I was in charge.”

“Gee, thanks.”

“And when you’re not being a complete brat, you’re not so bad. I’ve grown used to your torment.”

Nicole clutched her chest and said, “Why Cal, you woo me.”

He sat back on the sofa and turned his attention to the television. He said, “I don’t know why I bother.”

“You’re not the first to ponder that question,” Nicole replied. She stood up, met Cal’s annoyed gaze, and shrugged. She said, “If it’s you, me and It’s a Wonderful Life for the night, I think I’m overdressed. I’m gonna change.”

He stared at her for a second before nodding. “Fine.”

“I promise not to sneak out the window or anything, Cal.”

He nodded again and said, “Good.”

She started toward the attached bedroom she was sharing with her father. She stopped at the doorway and turned back toward Calvin. His eyes were focused on the television, but he didn’t seem to be paying attention. “Hey Chuck?”

“What now?”

“Merry Christmas.”

His face contorted with confusion and then he smiled. He said, “Yeah, you too. Now hurry up or you’ll miss the best part.”

Aw, yay! This would be such an awesome show, for real.

Also, Calvin doing what he's told? *snerk* Oh, the possibilities are boundless.

I'm very glad you liked it! And seriously, I love writing Nicole and Calvin...and they're so going to end up together (at least in my brain)

I started re-watching the series last night and imagining the whole thing with Nikko as a girl and it was so awesome. Thoughts are brewing, oh yes.

It's not like Nikko isn't used to sudden, radical changes in her life. Her mother was taken by some strange white light before Nikko had even hit puperty, for Pete's sake. It couldn't get much weirder than that, right?

Wrong. Because one minute she's being kicked out of yet anther boarding school, her bitchin' tricked out Blair Waldorf-ish uniform sadly left behind as her father totes her off to his, gah Taurus station wagon and the next thing she knows, her dad is a weird mix of uber-Dad, the Transporter and Batman.

Talk about disconcerting.

She spends the plane ride to Paris alternately sneaking glances at her father (too busy with his Top Secret file folders to even pay attention to the fact that his teenage daughter is distraught, in denail, and currently getting her ass beaten soundly by Vincent in chess), that Calvin guy (who's cute in a way she can't describe, and the waves of geekery and immediate jealousy and exasperation toward Nikko just make her all the mor inquisitive), and Vincent (who oddly feels like an uncle she never had, and isn't letting her cheat one bit).

It's a long fuckig plane ride.
