So I was going through all my files and trying to organize them properly on my computer - somehow categorize all the fanfiction the way I do with my regular writing/screenplays.

Anyway, I found this and I doubt anything more will ever come of it, especially since when I tend to dabble in the OTH fandom, it's usually Naley.

The intercom chirped, a monotone female voice paging a doctor to undoubtedly deliver devastating news to some poor family. It was the voice of doom, Haley surmised; the hospital version of God, thundering through the halls and frightening everyone in its wake. The sound blended into a cacaphonous melody with the ding, ding sound of the sliding doors as they moved from left to right, left to right, left to right.

A few random people rushed by the small inlet of plastic chairs where Haley and the others were waiting. Each wore the same partially-scared, partially-optimistic expression as he or she sprinted toward the nurse’s desk to gather information on someone. A stranger to Haley, but someone who was loved much the same way Luke was.

She wondered if any of those people had said something terrible the last time they had spoken to their someone. A comment so inanely stupid that in a normal situation it would be blown off as one of those things that happened every-now-and-then, but in the moment, in the dreary background of a hospital waiting room, it made all other things fall to the wayside. Who was it that said not to part ways angry? Was that a philosopher or Haley’s mom? She couldn’t recall—nothing much was clear at the moment.

This can’t be happening, she found herself thinking for the twentieth time that evening as she glanced from Peyton and Brooke’s tear-stained faces to where her hand was latched to Karen’s. This was one of those things that happened to other people, not to someone she knew and definitely not to Lucas. This was a Lifetime movie waiting to happen—best friends torn apart by stupid bickerings over love until one of them ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

God, why was this happening?
