i'm so bored...

Before any real entries of substance or proof that I have succeeded in writing something can take place, I feel the need for some memes galore that I've been doing at work in a fit of boredom.
dragonsinger has created her own meme:
You know how bands and artists pick their best songs for a "Best Of..." CD, well, that's how this works. Choose ten of your best fanfics (or fanart or original works or photographs). List them and explain why they're your best.
1) Reinventions - Complete. Novel. Nsync Fandom - JC Chasez. I’m very proud of this story – a take on the movie Sabrina - because I actually managed to write a romantic character who wasn’t cynical or sarcastic (like most of my lead characters tend to be), a character who was enchanted with life and love, and I’m proud of the description in that story. I’m one of those writers who is great at dialogue and struggles with setting and such – and I think I did it justice in this story. It’s one of those stories that make me wonder if I actually wrote it. Plus it’s got JC being all mean and manipulative. Heh.
2) Rhythm and Blues - Complete. Novel. Nsync Fandom – Justin Timberlake. So this is the story most people tend to love and I think my favorite thing about it is that I was able to incorporate my love of movies into this story.
3) A New Future - Complete. Short story. Charmed - Chris. This was one of those stories that ended up writing itself. It so rarely happens for me, but it seemed to work. I loved the idea of playing with the new future that Chris was responsible for creating and it was only fair that he get to enjoy it. (Speaking of which, everyone should read
ladybug218’s follow-up story that she wrote!)
4) The Proposal - Complete. Short Story. One Tree Hill - Nathan, Haley. It was written for my dearest bud, Carly, who requested that scene none of us got in the first season finale. I really love the way it turned out. It’s some of my better writing, some of that writing that makes me realize that I actually have improved with time.
5) A New Journey - Incomplete. Novel length. Roswell - Maria POV, with the whole gang, including Jesse – It’s a story with an actual plot (fantastical and insane, but a plot all the same) and I don’t know but I’m very fond of the Maria I’ve created – trying to bring her character back from the dark side of the evils of season three.
6) Untangled: A Virtuosic Piece of Poo - Complete. Short Story. Pop Fandom – Britney Spears POV. I’m not even a fan of Britney Spears, but I was in this weird mood one night and wrote this. I love my crazy first line of it, “My first kiss was with a wall I named Jake.”
7) Cultivating Creativity - Complete. Short Story. Joan of Arcadia - Joan. My first story in this fandom and I’m very proud of it. I enjoy it a great deal. I like writing Joan almost as much as I’ve come to enjoy Joan and Kevin bonding.
8) Therapy Session - Complete. Short Story. Joan of Arcadia - Joan POV. Joan with a therapist, discussing how Kevin’s accident impacted her. Joan angst is fun to write and this was my first hinting at Joan and Kevin bonding. Mwah.
9) Scenes From the Passenger Seat - Complete. Short story. Joan of Arcadia - Joan and Kevin. Actual Joan and Kevin bonding set after season one finale, where Kevin tries to reach out to his sister and help her get through all the crap she’s dealing with. Three vignettes that form one long story. I actually cared about theme!
10) Whatever - Incomplete. Novel. Semi-Nsync Fandom but mostly original character. This is a story about a teenage girl with a famous brother in the form of JC Chasez and her dealing with her life. I love my character of Lizzie. I love how sarcastic she is, how lost she is, how tough she tries to come across when she doesn’t feel like it at all. I actually took parts of this character and used her for my YA novel I did because I love her so much.

AT THE START: DO YOU...
Have an Outline? very rarely – usually only do outlines for my screenplays because I tend not to write the first drafts of those in order.
Scene-by-scene? Nope – I’m a character writer, that’s what I’m best at and because of that I tend to allow my characters to dictate where a story goes. I’m just along for the ride sometimes.
Know how it starts? I have a basic idea of what I want, but first lines are killer for me. I put too much pressure on myself that it has to be a good hook and usually end up failing miserably.
Know how it ends? Again, I have the basic gist of what I want to happen. Endings are usually pretty simple for me, in that the character usually guides me at that point.
Have your climax in order? Sometimes I know ahead what the big reveal/climax is going to be with my characters and it turns out I was wrong. I think Anne Lamott said it best in Bird by Bird that usually the best stories turn out much differently than we originally planned because we listen to our characters.
Know your main characters yet? Yes. That’s usually where my stories come from. A character that gets stuck in my brain.
Have a particular tone in mind? Yep.
Plan to draw on your own experiences? I swear that I write YA novels because I still have so many of my own issues that need to be worked through. So yes – in small ways things always end up coming out of my own experiences.
IS YOUR WORK GOING TO BE:
Funny? I hope to have some funny lines, but it’s not really a funny story.
Serious? It will seem serious to my main character and in ways it will be, but in other ways, she’s fifteen and tends to overdramatize things.
Sad? Since I have a heart of stone (thanks
chickpea), I tend not to think of things as really sad that I write, but other people will tell me something is…so I’m the worst judge of that.
Semi-Autobiographical? Not this story. My character might have more of a tendency to say those things I wish I had at times, but that’s about it.
Based on another story? Not that I know of.
HOW HAVE MUCH YOU PLANNED? HAVE YOU USED:
A paper journal? I usually write all my notes/character stuff/random lines that pop into my head and my first drafts in notebooks – I feel more attached to my writing that way.
Pens? Yeah, I’m all out of blood.
Multicolored pens? I like the standard blue pen or a pencil. It works wonders.
A computer? Well, for Nano, a wonderful pal created this amazing Excel spreadsheet for helping to chart goals/productivity so I’ve been using that in my preparation.
Index cards? Not my thing
Lists? Nope
Bulleted lists? No
Plot Charts? I’m not a storyboard type of girl with my novels.
Character Charts? I don’t like to get too much information on my character prior to the first draft – I don’t like set standards in my head because then I would try to force my character into something s/he might not be.
Character formulas? Is there such a thing? I always see characters as this unique voice.
Favorite writing resource: Um…I love my Oxford English Dictionary. Does that count? (one day when I’m rich, I will own the unabridged, eight hundred volume one).
ODDS AND ENDS:
A line you would like to use: “There is something to be said about a person who can remove himself completely from his daughter’s life and not feel any guilt. It would impress me, if I weren’t the girl in question.”
A scene you would like to include: I’d like to have a scene where Natalia has to adjust to the suburbs and a family night of bowling.
A concept you would like to explore: The idea that family is what we make of it in a sense.
A character you would like to use: You’ve got to have the hotshit, jockgod of the high school.
FORWARD THINKING…
Do you expect to be able to complete it? I hope so. My one big detriment is going to be keeping myself from going back and editing every little piece of writing until the first draft is done. That might keep me from making it to the 50,000 words in the time frame established. But otherwise, I’ve already prepared the boy, the friends, and everything else that I’m going to be a hermit for the month of November with any/all free time that I have.
Do you intend to complete it? Yes – does anyone not intend to complete it.
Would you ever try to publish it? Yes – with lots of rewrites after the initial draft. (Hence the reason if I post any bits/excerpts, it will most likely be friends locked filter– that’s a warning to anyone interested in reading – just let me know to add you)
What do you expect to get out of this month of frantic writing? Some headway in my issues with being an editing nazi with first drafts.
**Wow that thing was long…

THIS WEEK’S FANNISH FIVE -
fannish5
What are five reasons you still love your fandom?
I’m going to go with the Harry Potter fandom for this one…
1. I still love all the fanfiction that comes out.
2. A person’s ability to read something new or breathe life into a character in a way I never thought of before while maintaining loyalty to canon.
3. The discussions about how the last two books will proceed – I love the theories.
4. Draco Malfoy. I can admit it – my love for Draco is all because of fanon. He’s not much of anything but a racist twerp in the books (no offense to those who love him in canon).
5. I love the fact that I’m not alone in my love of Snape.

That passed some time...now I'm off to undertake in some picking of Charlie's brain for this Lost idea I had. That Charlie is an evil one - though I keep trying to make him so much like how I write Dom and that's not very fair to Charlie.
