Have fun reading and be sure to leave the authors comments/feedback for all their hardwork!

Feeling much better today. Can't decide if it's that my sinuses are under control, I got plenty of sleep last night, or that DNC last night (specifically Oba's speech) was freaking fantabulous. As my wonderful bud, Carly, put it, "It's political crack." -- anywho, I try to keep the fandom and everything else separate, so if you want to know my thoughts on such things, just see the latest entry in my normal journal [livejournal.com profile] randombtchchick

Anyway, the point of that meaningless diatribe was that I finished the back-up story for [livejournal.com profile] charmedflashfic that I was writing. Not the best thing I've written, but I enjoyed it and I think it meets the requested requirements. What more can I expect from myself? (that's a rhetorical question, self, so stop making lists!)

So here it is: Second Chances

Remember: Feedback is always my friend. Heh.

In other happy news, I just got notice that The O.C. Season 1 will be relased on dvd on October 26th. A week before the premiere of the new season! Double fabulousness as Seth Cohen comes to live in my bedroom...er...um...

Makes me think maybe I should finish the first draft of that O.C. story I was writing for the Multifandom Soap Opera Cliché Challenge. Speaking of which, the stories are going to be due in a little over a month. My god, how is it almost August? In one month I'll be another year older and none the wiser. Good Lordy.

Purchased the new Meg Cabot book, Teen Idol, at lunch and started reading it. Yes, I still read young adult books. It's the genre I write in with my regular fiction stories/novels and I like to keep up on what's going on. Not to mention, I'm just addicted to her books. They're easy, fun reads with lots of pop culture refernces.

But this one particular passage struck me because it totally sums up my life: "...seemingly since birth I've been cursed with being everybody's confidante. Seriously. I used to think I was a weirdo magnet or something, because it seemed like I could never go anywhere without random strangers coming up to me, telling me all about themselves, like about their hammer collection or their sick ferret or whatever..."

That's my life and part of the reason, I suspect, that I always end up with male stalkers. Because I have this flashing neon sign embedded in my forehead or something that says, "Share with me. I care." The ironic part? I don't really.

Okay, I'm off to conquer the beast that is Chapter Six of TIMH once and for all. I will finish it tonight. I will dance on the ruins of the stupid chapter and send it to Steph [livejournal.com profile] iamtheenemy laughing as she weeps and plots Frankie's demise. Mwahahahahaha.

Ciao.

So, I've been planning this for awhile, trying to think up a fun summer challenge like last summer (at least, i think and hope last summer's Chick Rock Challenge was fun for the participants) and I have finally come up with it.

I now present you with...

The Multifandom Soap Opera Cliche Challenge

THE SUMMARY

This is a multi-fandom/original challenge where one of the only real rules is to utilize one of the listed soap opera cliches in your story. I think a lot of us have a love for schmoopy dramatic pieces or comedic pieces that poke fun of such things often used by soap operas. I thought it would be interesting if we got some of the good writers out there to take the cheesy soap opera cliches and turn them on their ears. Make great use of them.

THE RULES

1. Any fandom, pairing, etc is welcome--Harry Potter, Alias, Roswell, Charmed, Pop, Sports Night, West Wing, etc, etc, etc.

2. You must use one of the soap opera cliches within your story. You can use more than one if you like, but I only require one of the themes to be included.

3. Minimum of 1000 words (though if it's like 982, no one is going to hunt you down) with no maximum...that's up to you, the writers.

4. When it's done, post a link in comments to this post to where it can be found on the internet. On the due date, i will make a post with a list of all the participants' stories and where they can be found.

5. You do NOT have to have a Livejournal to participate. Anonymous comments will be allowed so that you can tell me where to find the story for the link.

6. Due date is September 6, 2004. I consider Labor Day to mark the end of summer in my mind, so that's how long you guys have. You can post your story sooner if you like, but the main list won't go up until the morning of September 7, 2004.

7. Please, oh please, help me pimp this thing. It's not a real "rule" per se, but c'mon. I know we all have lotsa different friends/communities on our lists that might allow you to pimp like mad. So help a girl out here. The more participants, the more fun it is!

8. Since these questions have been posed, I'm adding this. Crossovers, AU, slash are all welcome. It's whatever inspires you as long as you use one of the soap cliches.

The Soap Opera Cliches

1. Amnesia. It can be the protagonist of the story or a family member or whatever. It can cause them to live another life or just not recognize anyone. Whatever you want. It's just all about using amnesia.

2. The Big Illness. A main character gets really sick and finds out about a long lost sibling or makes some miraculous recovery.

3. The Natural Disaster. Your characters end up in the storm of the century, a hurricane, etc.

4. Stranded. Plane or boat crashes. Leaving people stranded on islands.

5. The Return from the Dead. "Aren't you dead?" "Uh...no, don't think so."

6. My Lover Is My Brother. Finding out someone is a sibling can be a real damper on that crush you have. No wonder dad was so against us dating...

7. It's All A Dream.. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] switchknives). Something like Dallas. Have something major happen in your story only to find out at the end it was all a dream.

8. The Evil Twin. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] nasagrl). Someone is wreaking havoc on the others in your fandom and it's like their another person...oh wait, they are!

9. The Baby-Switch. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] allecto). It's my baby. No, it's not. I did have my husband's child, oops, it's actually his brother's kid.

10. Married for all the wrong reasons. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] callmesandy) We're getting married even though we're both in love with other people (or maybe just one of us). One of us is dying and doesn't want our true love to know. One of us might go to prison if someone testifies against us, so we marry them.

11. Kidnapped. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] lilysaid). Think of the possibilities. It's my wedding day, but crazy man has kidnapped me. Heh.

12. the evil mastermind taking over the world. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] jinx32). What we all need is a really good megalomaniac story.

13. The Misunderstood Villain. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] hyperfocused). Villains with the heart of gold. He does bad things, but he was abused as a child and just needs the right person to love him and make him...good.

14. the ol' whodunnit scenario. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] amberdiceless). Who shot/hexed/staked so-and-so?

15. The Love Triangle. (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] stargems). Not just your simple I have a crush on my best friend’s boyfriend. No, this is the serious stuff. The I’m most definitely torn because one is my soulmate and the other is my recently returned from the dead boyfriend who still thinks it’s 1989. Personally, I think this one works best with a mix of the others, but it's not required.

**If you have any other soap opera cliches that you think should be included, leave me a comment and I'll add it to the list. These were the ones I thought of off the top of my head.
