This day is going way too slow. What is it about Tuesdays at work that simply drag on? I just really don't like it.

**

When you see this, quote Supernatural in your journal.

Dean: Bitch.
Sam: What're you calling me a bitch for?
Dean: You're supposed to say "jerk."
Sam: What?
Dean: Never mind.

Only two days left until we have new Supernatural. I'm unspoiled and cannot wait for the first episode of the season. I really do love our boys so very much.

**

There used to be a time when I could not only write frequently, but write long pieces. Nowadays, it's mostly a short story or random scene. I miss being able to put together long, drawn-out stories that (hopefully) come together.

Finally, I leave you with a picture of one of my birthday presents. I have two new kitties!

Dexter & Brian (aka Ice Truck Killer). Dexter is the baby who sometimes needs a helmet. Brian is the orange tabby/older brother who I think rolls his eyes a lot at Dexter.

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Ben Franklin

I think it's especially appropriate at this time.

It's Friday! it's Friday! Soon the weekend will be upon me and it's supposed to be lovely outside.

But let's start with the awesomeness that is Supernatural

Spoilers for the episode... )

The Supernatural Friday Five ([livejournal.com profile] spn_fridayfive) - Week 28

1. If Sam and/or Dean have children, do you think they will bring up their children learning how to hunt or give them a "normal" upbringing?

Sam would want to give his kids a normal upbringing like he never got to have, but I think he would make sure they knew how to take care of themselves and that evil was out there once they hit a certain age. While Dean is great with kids, I'm not sure I see him having children. If he did have kids, I'm honestly not sure how he would choose to handle it. Probably with hunts on the weekends out of a certain spot. Because I can't see him not being in his kid's lives or wanting them to have everything they possibly could. It just doesn't fit who he is. At the same time, Dean is a hunter. That's what he does and I can't see him being happy without that ability to save people and fight evil.

2. What do you think about the usage of song titles as episode titles? (Ex: In My Time of Dying, Houses of the Holy) It's fine by me.

3. Of the songs played on the show thus far, which one do you like the least? None of the songs have bothered me and I don't really quantify the music used like that.

4. Assuming Sam and Dean had any sort of "normal" childhood toy, what do you think it was?

Dean had a firetruck that he loved to play with and took with him everywhere.

Sam had a stuffed bear from when he was little and he always needed to have it with him. In fact, he actually still had it until the fire at his apartment.

5. What is one quote you think best describes Sam and Dean each? Quotes from the show? Or just any quote? I'll go with quotes from the show...

For Dean:
Dean Winchester: Ugh, the thought of him driving my car.
Sam Winchester: Oh, come on.
Dean Winchester: It's killing me!
Sam Winchester: Let it go.

Because Dean's car is his home. it's *his*. It's part of his identity and he can't stand the idea of someone else claiming it. So perfectly him.

For Sam:
Sam Winchester: When I told Dad I was scared of the thing in my closet, he gave me a .45.
Dean Winchester: What was he supposed to do?
Sam Winchester: I was *nine* years old. He was supposed to say, "Don't be afraid of the dark"!

This is Sam's whole journey, really, isn't it? He goes from just wanting to be normal, turning his back on the hunt, to being pulled back in out of vengeance, to slowly realizing that what they do has a purpose and saves lives.

For the Sam & Dean relationship: (I added this one myself)
Sam: Dean, what I said about Mom and Dad, I'm sorry.
Dean: Hey, no chick-flick moments.
Sam: Alright. Jerk.
Dean: Bitch.

God, I love them.

spn fun!

When you see this post, quote from Supernatural on your LJ.

DEAN: You're not gonna try and kill me, are you?
SAM: No.
DEAN: Good, 'cause that would be awkward.
tommygirl: (books - the world)
Because [livejournal.com profile] iamtheenemy will get mad at me if I don't...

If you see this post, quote Kurt Vonnegut

"You know what I say to people when I hear they're writing anti-war books?"
"No. What do you say, Harrison Starr?"
"I say, 'Why don't you write an anti-glacier book instead?'"
What he meant, of course, was that there would always be wars, that they were as easy to stop as glaciers.

-Slaughterhouse-Five
tommygirl: (sga - ronon dex)
When you see this on your flist, quote Leo McGarry.

"There are two things in the world you never want people to see how you make them - laws and sausages."

[on the phone with the New York Times] "17 across. Yes, 17 across is wrong... You're spelling his name wrong... What's my name? My name doesn't matter. I am just an ordinary citizen who relies on the Times crossword for stimulation. And I'm telling you that I met the man twice. And I recommended a pre-emptive missile strike against his air force, so I think I know how...they hang up on me every time"

"I am making a mental list of those who are snickering, and even as I speak I'm preparing appropriate retribution."

Gah. I love Leo. ::weeps a whole lot:: I haven't watched Sunday's West Wing yet because I'm not quite ready to become an emotional basketcase. As it is, friends are still mocking me for the fact that I was so upset with John Spencer's death. Or as my sister said, "The girl doesn't cry when her surrogate grandmother/aunt dies, but random dude on television breaks her." I'm a very strange girl. I admit it.

Must write. Must write. Must write. That means that I must stop reading fanfiction.

First up on the list is [livejournal.com profile] smutbox stuff. I want to write something up so that my wubulous partner and I can discuss and figure out even more where to take things.

I've also got a lot of beta work to get caught up on before everyone comes after me with pitchforks, tar, and feathers. I'm way behind and, while I'd like to blame the devil house that I currently reside in, some of it may be due to my own laziness. I do have the market cornered with my ability to accomplish a whole lot of *nothing* in one evening.

**

So Steph and I were catching up on AIM this weekend and during one of our conversations, she pointed me to a discussion occurring based on quality vs. popularity in fanfiction. This isn't a new topic, but the discussion quickly turned to is it reccers' faults if good fic from unknowns isn't read?"

Below I ramble on and provide some of my own rules of getting read...subjective as it might be... )

Anyone else scared for tonight's Ode to Queen on American Idol? I am. Good Lordy, I'm scared.

Alrighty, writing to be done.

Ciao.
tommygirl: (firefly - jayne - bad guys)
Because it's Serenity week, I felt that i had to do this!

When you see this on your flist, quote Firefly.

Wash: "Everything looks good from here... (beat...playing with plastic dinosaurs over his console) Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive."
(as Stegosaurus) "We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... 'This Land'."
(as T-Rex) "I think we should call it...your grave!"
(Stegosaurus) "Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
(T-Rex) "Ha ha HA! Mine is an evil laugh...now die!"

**

"Dear Diary...today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. Today, we were kidnapped by hill folk never to be seen again. It was the best day ever."
tommygirl: (dan by crumpets)
Feeling much better today. Can't decide if it's that my sinuses are under control, I got plenty of sleep last night, or that DNC last night (specifically Oba's speech) was freaking fantabulous. As my wonderful bud, Carly, put it, "It's political crack." -- anywho, I try to keep the fandom and everything else separate, so if you want to know my thoughts on such things, just see the latest entry in my normal journal [livejournal.com profile] randombtchchick

Anyway, the point of that meaningless diatribe was that I finished the back-up story for [livejournal.com profile] charmedflashfic that I was writing. Not the best thing I've written, but I enjoyed it and I think it meets the requested requirements. What more can I expect from myself? (that's a rhetorical question, self, so stop making lists!)

So here it is: Second Chances

Remember: Feedback is always my friend. Heh.

In other happy news, I just got notice that The O.C. Season 1 will be relased on dvd on October 26th. A week before the premiere of the new season! Double fabulousness as Seth Cohen comes to live in my bedroom...er...um...

Makes me think maybe I should finish the first draft of that O.C. story I was writing for the Multifandom Soap Opera Cliché Challenge. Speaking of which, the stories are going to be due in a little over a month. My god, how is it almost August? In one month I'll be another year older and none the wiser. Good Lordy.

**

Purchased the new Meg Cabot book, Teen Idol, at lunch and started reading it. Yes, I still read young adult books. It's the genre I write in with my regular fiction stories/novels and I like to keep up on what's going on. Not to mention, I'm just addicted to her books. They're easy, fun reads with lots of pop culture refernces.

But this one particular passage struck me because it totally sums up my life: "...seemingly since birth I've been cursed with being everybody's confidante. Seriously. I used to think I was a weirdo magnet or something, because it seemed like I could never go anywhere without random strangers coming up to me, telling me all about themselves, like about their hammer collection or their sick ferret or whatever..."

That's my life and part of the reason, I suspect, that I always end up with male stalkers. Because I have this flashing neon sign embedded in my forehead or something that says, "Share with me. I care." The ironic part? I don't really.

**

Okay, I'm off to conquer the beast that is Chapter Six of TIMH once and for all. I will finish it tonight. I will dance on the ruins of the stupid chapter and send it to Steph [livejournal.com profile] iamtheenemy laughing as she weeps and plots Frankie's demise. Mwahahahahaha.

Ciao.
