my moment of zen...or not...
Jun. 20th, 2006 11:08 amI'm just about ready to give up on ficathons in general. There would still be a few that I would do, but it seems that most people who sign up flake out in the end. And it drives me crazy.
If you sign up to write a story for someone else, you do it. Sure, real life happens and things come up, but not quite so often as some make it seem. If you're insanely busy in your real life, maybe now is not the time to sign up for a ficathon, where someone else is waiting/hoping/wanting to read a story of their own.
It also seems that there are a lot of people who don't even comment on the stories that they receive and that just reeks of bad manners. If someone writes a story for you, whether it's your cup of tea or not, at the very least you should say "Thank you." It takes like two seconds of your time and it makes the writer feel a whole lot better than never hearing a word from the person they wrote for.
And I guess I'm just bitter because it seems that I'm always getting shafted in these things. I end up never getting my story and/or getting assigned to the person who doesn't believe in saying "thank you." It's quite disheartening.
So that leaves me with two options:
1) Start a multifandom community for moderators/organizers of ficathons where they can post a list of people who flaked on their challenge without a good reason (we all know the difference between real emergency and lame excuse when you had two months to write 1000 words). Then organizers can use it to decide if they want to let this person sign up for their ficathon, knowing that this person has flaked in the past.
HOwever, that's a whole lot of work for someone like me. So i think I'll go with option 2.
2) No more ficathons aside from a select few like Yuletide and Remix. I'll do prompt challenges and such, but nothing where I'm writing for one person who never says "thank you" (pissing me off) and/or where I never get the story I requested (which saddens me).
And now I'm done being contrary. Sorry for that, but argh, it annoys me so much, especially the recipient not saying "thank you." It's just WRONG, people.

How much do I love Entourage? It is the most awesome of awesome things on television at the moment. God, I love those boys. I loved this past episode and the homage to Almost Famous cracked me up. I love every character, even when they do really shitty things, and just...gah.
Can anyone point me to some good icons? I only have the one of Ari and I'd like some more. Also, there needs to be more fic in this fandom. the stories that exist are freaking great, but I want more, dammit. I'm a greedy girl like that.

My co-worker is trying to teach me the ins and outs of my space. So not my cup of tea. The only reason I have an account is because it's the only way to keep up with some of my real life friends...so May is trying to teach me how to post and comment and such. I just want to stick with my happy livejournal world.

Alrighty, off to do some more drabbles, my Brothers Halliwell story, and and some actual work before this day is over.
Ciao!
